The Big Picture
The goal of all our work in India is simple. We want people to know Jesus better. We do this through many forms of Evangelism, Discipleship, and Service in some of the poorest communities of India. Over the past 12 years we have seen and met many needs in India. In the last few years, we have seen a need for a home for elderly Indians. In the Indian culture the family is supposed to care for their own parents as the age. We have met many who fall through the shortcomings of this system. They are left on their own as their health declines.
How do people end up neglected?
Some elderly never had children or lost their children at an early age, leaving no one to care for them. Some are purposefully neglected because they decided to become a follower of Jesus against the wishes of their family. For many the care needed is simply not affordable. Residents will be recommended by our ministry partners and selected based on their need.
What will Daya Seva Care Home look like?
The campus will eventually include a three-story house. The first and second floor will house the living quarter rooms. These rooms will be home to as many as 4 people and will include bedding, closets, and a bathroom. A common room will connect all the quarters. A modern well will provide clean water. The dining hall and kitchen will be contained in a separate building. A garden will provide some produce for residents. The third floor will be an open meeting hall which will be rentable for events and will house our tailoring academy, both of which will generate some income to help offset costs.
How will the home be supported in the long term?
We have several plans to help support the home after it is built. A portion of the second floor will be seasonal “for rent” living spaces. Sales of handcrafts made in the tailoring academy will also provide a small income. Nearby we plan to build a market shop to generate rental income. Our medical camp partners will provide discounted rates for doctoral care and drugs as needed. Many of the Indian churches we have worked with will provided volunteer time and support. Even with all these plans we still expect to need external support. We will be actively seeking out sustaining support through American churches, organizations, and individuals.
How will you support this project?
Our key need at this point is funding. The first floor of the home, the kitchen, and the well can be built and ready to house people for $65,000. It will take many supporters to make this vision a reality.
